Azhar Aalam adapted Chehre into Urdu from The Sins of the Mother by Tony Devaney Morinelli,  it recalls Lorca’s House of Bernarda Alba.
Chehre examines the vices of alcoholism, violence and the barriers it possesses, the insecurity, torture and the uncertainties it creates in the mind of family members.

The play, by Tony Devaney Morinelli, the Performing Arts Director and Humanities Chair at the Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, as I later discovered, unfolded as an undisguised investigation of the causes of alcoholism, and all kinds of addiction, and a vehement warning against its lethal consequences. Though the writing paid sensitive attention to characterisation, was peppered with affective, poetical patches here and there and had lavish sprinklings of black humour, the play vividly reminded me of all those 'continence' melodramas which hoisted the banner of 'Defy the Demon Drink' at the turn of the century and were predominantly directed at the exploited working classes in the England and other Western countries.
To the credit of the performance, it valiantly fought throughout against slipping into the squelchy, emotional morass that such melodramas enticingly offer, and managed, through the restrained dignity of the acting, the ascetically frugal set and effects, and the smooth and clever blocking by director Dina Amin, to symbolically transform the suffering of the two daughters caught in the clutches of poverty and saddled with an alcoholic mother into an existential trap of multiple, wider significance.

Wits School of Arts presents Sins of the Mothers at the Nunnery (30 Sept - 4 Oct)

SINS OF THE MOTHER
It makes the point that the more we focus on what we don’t want, the less the probability of getting what we do want, and how the fear of failure perpetuates failure and sabotages the potential for success. It proves the saying ‘misery loves company’.

This powerful piece deals with the disappointment of unrealized dreams.
Is life passing you by? Is it possible to escape the sins of our mothers?
Sins of the Mothers deals with these questions in a frank and often uncomfortable manner, but promises to be a thought - provoking night at the theatre.

The Washtub Farce

Time for a funny play, I say. The Washtub Farce is a slapstick comedy by Tony Devaney Morinelli, directed by Josa Maule, and the fourth production from Express-O Theatre Season. Good people, hear the tale we tell of woman’s wiles and husband’s hell. See how the woman for gossip caused her house to fret, and hear the tale of the husband. Did the Devil make him do it? Washtub Farce will tickle your funny bone!

When Lilacs Last - Dalton Little Theater, Dalton GA

A note from the director at Dalton:
A huge THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS to the cast and volunteers for When Lilacs Last at DLT. It has been a great experience and I have been reminded every night just how little we have really changed as a society where bigotry and hate are concerned since 1955. A longtime patron of DLT told me tonight that this show was the most compelling and gut wrenching play they have ever seen on the Dalton Little Theatre stage and that the acting was superb. I dedicate this production to all the outcasts of society from Joan of Arc to Matthew Shepherd whose lives were cut short because of ignorance. Kudos to my outstanding cast and to DLT.
