Plays for Children
By Children/ For Children

The works on this page function on two levels.  As educational and artistic experiences they are written in such a way as to be works performed by children for their peers, or, as works performed by adults for children.
Theater Words offers royalty free plays and scenes, plays for women, plays for Black actors, African American plays, plays with gay themes, ten minutes plays, scenes, plays for children, plays for small theater groups, created by the Performing Arts Department of The Shipley School.

The Tale of Rabbit. Cast of 11.  This tale is taken from West African folk lore.  In America, this fable became part of the Uncle Remus stories compiled  by Joel Chandler Harris in the 19th century and popularized by Walt Disney in his film production "Song of the South."

The Tale of Rooster.  Cast of 6 plus percussion players. This work, taken from West African folk lore includes the percussion of drums.
The Tale of the Two Color Coat     Cast of 5.  A West African story about judging others from a narrow point of view.
The Tale of Dog and Wolf and Why Dog Lives with Man. Cast of 12.  Parts may be adjusted.  A Native American tale about a little girl who befriends a puppy.  A very short piece excellent for use with younger children.
One Rice Thousand Gold. 一飯千金 / 一饭千金   A Chinese pantomime about giving and receiving.
The Starfish​ - A play for five or more children. A community works together to save a stranded starfish.
